I have been using a piece of software I acquired a while back called ConceptDraw Office one of the main features of Concept Draw is some great mind mapping software. When I was first exposed to mindmapping a few years back I admit that at the time I thought it was just a bunch of creative exercise “mumbo-jumbo” but as someone who has seen others use it in their daily work I have really begun to appreciate how Mindmapping can make organizing my thoughts a whole lot easier with just a simple what of presenting the information. Our natural tendency is to just make a list and while for short things a list may be fine and even in official legal documentation a typical outline style list may be fine but for idea generation and day to day work flow a mindmap may a better way to go. Why do you ask is diagraming items in an expanding tree better than an “old fashioned list?” The following works for me;
- I think in expanding ideas
- Items are not given priority over another at this stage – that may be fine for later but not for brainstorming
- It helps one see the relationship between items in idea levels
- It’s easier to think of possibilities and options than using a traditional list layout.
Do you use the mind map concept in your work and person life? What is your experience?
